Rustam Dushmanziyar was an Iranian nobleman and father of Muhammad ibn Rustam Dushmanziyar, the founder of the Kakuyid dynasty. Rustam was the son of Al-Marzuban al-Daylami, a possible descendant of the Bavandids of Tabaristan.[1] His real name was Rustam but was known as Dushmanziyar, which is the Arabized version of Dushmanzar, meaning "he who brings grief to his enemy". He served the Buyids of Jibal and was the maternal uncle (Deylami: kaku) of Seyyedeh Khatun, wife of the Buyid Fakhr al-Dawla, and the mother of Buyid Emir Abu Taleb Rostam and Shams al-Dawla. He was later rewarded with land in Alborz in appreciation of his services. His duty was to protect Ray and northern Jibal against the local leaders from Tabaristan.[2] Rustam died at an unknown date but before 1007.
