Rude Tube is a television show broadcast on Channel 4 and presented by English comedian Alex Zane.[1]

The pilot aired on 16 February 2008. It listed the top 50 original videos on YouTube.[2][3]

History

The pilot drew 2.5 million viewers when aired in the Friday primetime slot, 10.8% of the viewers watching television in the United Kingdom at that time.[4][5]

An E4 only series, presented by Matt Kirshen, it began on 5 November 2008 and concluded on 17 December 2008 after six episodes. In the last episode of this series, Drink and Drugs, the #1 position was held by the video known simply as Techno Viking.[6]

On 2 January 2009 a new episode called "Rude Tube 2009" was broadcast, with Alex Zane returning as host.[7] It purported to feature the top 50 viral video clips on the web rated by number of views in 2008.

"Rude Tube 2009" gained 3.8 million viewers with an audience share of 58% of 16-35 year olds.

Rude Tube III featured 3 new 60 minute episodes that were shown on Channel 4 from 9–23 October 2009 which included Heroes and Villains, Weird and Wonderful and Superstars of the Web.

Since 2008 Rude Tube has showed 100 of the best viral videos, of the 12 months.

Rude Tube IV started on Wednesday 6 October 2010 on Channel 4 and ran for 6 episodes.

Rude Tube 2011 was another 2 hour special which aired on 7 January 2011. It showed 100 clips which were a combination of 50 highlights from Rude Tube IV and 50 new clips.

A fifth season of the show featured 8 episodes and aired on CH4 in September and October 2011. This is swiftly followed by the first Rude Tube Christmas special - a countdown of 50 Christmas themed clips which will air on Xmas Day at 10pm on CH4.

The annual 2 hour year-end round up called Rude Tube 2012 will air on New Years Day at 10pm on CH4.

A Best of Rude Tube DVD, presented by Alex Zane, was released by Acorn Media UK on 21 November 2011

A new series of Rude Tube started on 11 September 2012 with Utter Fails and A Christmas Cracker.
