Rubin Rafael Okotie (born 6 June 1987) is an Austrian professional footballer currently playing as a Striker for Danish side SønderjyskE.
The son of a Nigerian father and an Austrian mother spent the first four years of his life in the Spanish city of Barcelona.[2] As a result of his multicultural background he is eligible to represent three countries at national level, namely Austria, Nigeria and Pakistan. Okotie identifies himself primarily as Austrian, stating that "I live there, it's where I have my friends, and I think of myself as Austrian" in an interview with FIFA's website.[2]
Club career
His Austrian Bundesliga début for Austrian giants FK Austria Wien was on 5 August 2007 in a game against archrivals SK Rapid Wien (0–0). His first goal came on 23 February 2008, against FC Red Bull Salzburg (3–1) in the Austrian Bundesliga. On 30 May 2010, he left Austria Wien and signed a three-year contract with German side 1. FC Nuremberg.[3] After leaving FC Nuremberg, in 2011, for a deal at Sturm Graz, Rubin Okotie subsequently returned to his boyhood club, Austria Wien, on 18 June 2013.[4]
International career
Currently a member of the Austria national football team he has played for the country at under-19-level in the 2006 European championships in Poland and under-20 level in the 2007 World Cup in Canada.[5] He scored twice at the latter tournament, helping his side reach the semi-finals.
