Royal Garden Hotel is a 5 red star hotel in London, England. It is located in the heart of Kensington, on Kensington High Street, overlooking Kensington Palace and gardens. The palace, Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall can all be seen from the hotel.
History
What is now the Royal Garden Hotel was originally built in the 1800s under the name of the Palace Hotel with a completely different image and layout. As part of the war effort in the 1900s it was taken over and used as the headquarters for the Woman's Royal Voluntary Service. In the 1960s, as part of a Labour Government grant the hotel was demolished and completely rebuilt under the design of Colonel Richard Seiffert. After five years of construction the hotel re-opened in 1965 under the Royal Garden Hotel brand, as it stands today.
In 1994 the Royal Garden Hotel undertook a 30 million pound refurbishment, opening again for guests in April 1996, under the management of the Goodwood Group. The Royal Garden is one of three partner hotels, the other two being the Goodwood Park and the York Hotel.
In May 2011, the hotel completed the final stage of an extensive £45 million refurbishment, unveiling a further 154 newly renovated bedrooms situated on the first to fourth floors.[1]
The Director of each hotel is a daughter of the late chairman, Tan Sri Khoo Teck Puat. A statue of the late chairman can be found in the Lobby of the Royal Garden celebrating the history of the Hotel. The new chairman of the Goodwood Group is the eldest daughter, Mavis Oei. The director of the Royal Garden Hotel is Mrs Jennifer Carmichael.[citation needed]
Facilities
The Royal Garden Hotel has 396 Bedrooms over 10 floors. It contains two restaurants, one on the ground floor called the Park Terrace and the other is situated on the 10th floor called Min Jiang which overlooks Kensignton Gardens, Hyde Park and Londons Skyline. The hotel has a Soma Centre including sauna and steam room, gym and a range of treatments.
