Rory McCann (born 24 April 1969) is a Scottish film and television actor. He is best known for portraying "The Hound" Sandor Clegane on HBO's Game of Thrones.

Early life

Prior to McCann's career in acting, he was a gardener for estates in the south of Glasgow.

Career

McCann's first acting role came in an advert for Scott's Porage Oats dressed in a vest and kilt. He was next seen in the 2002 television comedy-drama The Book Group playing a disabled personal trainer, for which he won a Scottish BAFTA award for the best television performance of 2002. Since then, McCann has taken television roles as Detective Inspector Stuart Brown in State of Play, as Peter the Great in Peter in Paradise and appeared as a priest in the award-winning British comedy drama television series Shameless. He made his Hollywood debut in Oliver Stone's film Alexander. In 2007, he also appeared in Hot Fuzz as Michael Armstrong. In 2008, he played Moby in The Crew and Atilla the Hun in the BBC docudrama Heroes and Villains. He portrays Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in the HBO series Game of Thrones.[1]

Personal life

McCann has a younger sister, Sally-Gay McCann, who works on costumes for film and television, and worked alongside Rory on Alexander. She has also worked with him in the series Game of Thrones.[2]

A supporter of the Scottish Green Party, McCann appeared in their Scottish Parliament general election, 2007 broadcast.[3]
