Ronald Javier Uviedo Acevedo (born October 7, 1986 in Calabozo, Venezuela) is a minor league baseball pitcher who is with the Camden Riversharks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
Career
He began his professional career in 2005 in the Seattle Mariners farm system, playing for the VSL Mariners and going 4-3 with a 2.76 ERA in 12 games (10 starts). He pitched for the VSL Pirates in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization in 2006, going 2-0 with a 2.02 ERA and striking out 44 batters in 35 2/3 innings over 25 relief appearances. He split the 2007 season between the State College Spikes (21 games), Hickory Crawdads (three games) and Lynchburg Hillcats (four games), going a combined 2-0 with a 4.48 ERA in 28 relief appearances. In 2008, he pitched for the Crawdads (33 games) and Hillcats (seven games), going 3-1 with a 2.87 ERA in 40 outings. Uviedo was added to the Pirates' 40 man roster following the 2008 season.[1]
Uviedo was invited to spring training in 2009, but was optioned to Lynchburg to start the season.[2] He was used mostly as a starter in 2009, making three starts for the GCL Pirates and 18 for the Hillcats (as well as five relief appearances), going a combined 5-6 with a 3.35 ERA.
He began 2010 with the Altoona Curve, but on June 1 he was traded to the Blue Jays for Dana Eveland.[3] On July 14, the Blue Jays designated him for assignment to make room on the roster for Yunel Escobar.[4]
In April 2013, Uviedo signed with the Camden Riversharks.[5]
