Romantics Anonymous (French: Les émotifs anonymes) is a 2010 French film directed by Jean-Pierre Améris and starring Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle Carré. The film won the Magritte Award for Best Foreign Coproduction at the 2nd Magritte Awards on February 4, 2011.[1]

Plot

Angélique, who is afraid of just about everything, attends a support group for others like her. Jean-René, who owns a small manufacturer of chocolate called the Chocolate Mill, is also afraid of many things, but particularly of intimacy. The Chocolate Mill is failing because it makes an old-fashioned kind of chocolate that no longer sells well.

Earlier, Angélique had become a first-class chocolate maker for another chocolate factory, Mercier. However, she was unable to tolerate the recognition, and the factory owner had agreed to keep her identity secret. When the owner of Mercier passed away, Angélique stopped making chocolate because she would no longer be able to remain anonymous.

In an attempt to overcome her fears, Angélique applies for a job at the Chocolate Mill, and Jean-René hires her as a sales rep, not what she had in mind. When she realizes the company will go bankrupt if they do not improve the quality of the chocolate, she helps the other employees make chocolate, claiming she has an electronic link with the anonymous chocolate maker formerly with Mercier.

At the same time, Angélique and Jean-René fall in love, but have substantial difficulties expressing their feelings and developing their relationship because of their fears.

Ultimately, Angélique is revealed as the former Mercier chocolate maker, the Chocolate Mill becomes successful, and the couple consummate their relationship, all with a little help from the other Chocolate Mill employees and the support group. The couple find an alternative way of coping with the stresses of the wedding and remaining together forever after.
