Robert T. Wagner

Robert Todd Wagner (1932-2011) served as the 17th President of South Dakota State University from 1985 -1997. Wagner received his Ph.D. from SDSU in Sociology in 1972. A native South Dakotan, he was the second alumnus to be named President. Wagner also held honorary doctorates from Augustana College, Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, the University of South Dakota, and a Doctorate of Public Service to the State of South Dakota awarded by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
In 2010 South Dakota State renamed a major campus building in honor of Wagner and his spouse, former State Senator Mary Mumford Wagner (1932-2004).
