Robert Addison Day
Robert Addison Day is the former Chairman and chief executive officer of Trust Company of the West and Chairman and President of the W. M. Keck Foundation.[1][2][3]
Biography
Robert Addison Day is the grandson of Superior Oil Company founder William Myron Keck.[2][3] He was born in 1943 in Los Angeles.[3] He received a Bachelor of Science in economics at Claremont McKenna College in 1965.[1][3][4]
He started his career at the financial firm White, Weld and Company in New York City.[1] In 1971, he founded the Trust Company of the West.[1][5] In 2001, he sold 70% of it to the Société Générale for $2.5 billion.[5]
He sits on the Board of Directors of Freeport-McMoRan, Fisher Scientific, and Société Générale.[1][3] He also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Brookings Institution, and he was Chairman from 1990 to 1998.[1][4] In 2007, he made a gift of $200 million to his alma mater.[4][6] He is a member of the Business Council.[1] From 2001 to 2003, he sat on the President's Intelligence Advisory Board.[3] He is also a member of the Alfalfa Club, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Council on Foreign Relations.[3] A Republican, he campaigned for George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, as well as for Elizabeth Dole, Pete Coors, and David Dreier.[3]
As of September 2011, he is worth US$ 1.2. billion, and he is the 283rd richest person in the United States.[5] He owns 600,000 acres of timberland in Florida.[5] He is married with three children.[3] He lives in Los Angeles, California.[5]
