Rob Frampton (born 6 October 1973) is a British strongman competitor, winner of the UK Team Championships in 2008, winner of the British Clash of the Giants in 2011 and repeat competitor at the World's Strongest Man.

Early life

Robert Frampton was born on 6 October 1973 in Titchfield, Hampshire, the son of Roderick Frampton and Sally (née Hawkins). He grew up in Titchfield, the younger of two brothers.

Strongman career

Frampton began focussing his training on strength athletics in 2005. He soon became a regular on the British circuit, competing in Britain's Strongest Man and the UK's Strongest Man, as well as England's Strongest Man and other regional events. In 2007 he placed third in Elite promotions version of England's Strongest Man and the next year partnered Laurence Shahlaei to become UK Team champion. In 2010 he was invited to the World's Strongest Man as first reserve owing to his consistent form on the international circuit, where he had first made his mark in 2009 at the Giants Live in Malbork, Poland. His podium finish at Strongman Champions League Bulgaria, in 2011, was his greatest accomplishment at that point. In 2011 he gained his second consecutive invite to the World's Strongest Man competition, the invitation having been gained with a victory in the Clash of the Giants contest held in July 2011 in Boroughbridge, England. Frampton was hampered by sciatic pain during the qualifier and did not progress to the final.

Outside of Strength Athletics

Frampton worked as a doorman from his early twenties and in the course of this profession was shot in 2006.[3] The incident took place in January 2006, when Frampton was finishing work as a doorman at Elegance nightclub, Southsea. Someone wearing a Scream-style mask shot him at close range, and although a lump of muscle the size of a grapefruit was removed from his leg, after two surgeries and a skin graft the leg was saved. Rob went on to own and run a gym, Strength-Tec, in Fareham.
