Rightstrade is an online film and television market that was founded as a digital equivalent of the offline Festival de Cannes and Marché du Film market.[1] Rightstrade announced it would launch the RightsCloud Screener Service at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, 2012.[2] RightsCloud was launched in November, 2011 as a dedicated high-speed content network to deliver digital media assets assets licensed on the Rightstrade online market.

History

Rightstrade was formed to by Matilda Media in 2009, became a joint-venture project with FilmTrack Software in 2010 and entered commercial development in May 2011 with financing from strategic investors.[3] Rightstrade executives include Jason Kassin, Alex Hartman, Stephen Kassin and Thomas Coleman. On October 1, 2013, Rightstrade announced it had appointed Steven Polster as its Chief Executive Officer, Polster was most recently responsible for international licensing and distribution activities at Miramax. He also held posts at Technicolor, Paramount Home Entertainment International and Mattel.[4]

According to Variety "RightsTrade, a unit of content management specialist FilmTrack, is attempting to carve out a niche in the sales business. Polster will be responsible for overseeing RightsTrade’s services, such as its Screening Room platform, which has attracted more than 1200 buyers in its beta stage including Voltage Pictures, Svensk Filmindustri and Arclight Films."[5]

Rightstrade is an online market and delivery platform for film and television buyers and sellers to search, screen, buy and deliver from a range of film and television titles, and provides online services for film promotion.[3] Rightstrade’s technology platform has been developed by FilmTrack Software, whose rights, contract and content management system is in use by film and television rights owners.[6] For platform and deliver services, Rightstrade uses (Technicolor,[7] Inception, Pacific Digital) and Content partners (Variety, Rentrak, BoxOffice.com).
