Richie Rich (designer)
Richie Rich is an American fashion designer and performance artist, best known as co-founder of the now defunct fashion label Heatherette.
Early life in California
Rich was born in California as Richard J. Eichhorn. He was an avid ice skater, often proclaiming his desire to go to the Olympics. On stage at the 1992 Folsom Street Fair, Richie Rich sang a song he had written called Go-Go Dancer. Soon after that he moved to New York City.
Rich is openly gay.
New York City
In the mid-1990s, Rich was a staple in the New York City club kid scene, and made a cameo appearance in the 2003 film Party Monster.
Richie Rich was also featured as one of the club kids on the Jane Whitney Show where G.G. Allin was the main guest, and club kids were depicted as pillars of independent, non violent free thought.[1]
Together with Traver Rains, he is co-founder of the now defunct fashion label Heatherette
Richie released an album called "Celebutante" on October 21, 2008 on the record label Defend Music. The album is a compilation of songs including tracks from Lily Allen, Mýa, Scissor Sisters, Blondie, and one from Rich himself, also titled "Celebutante."[2]
King Collective
Starting in September 2010, Rich signed on with The King Collective to produce a new line called Pop Luxe.[3] The collection was one of the first to be shown at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center, and featured Ellen DeGeneres.
In November 2010, Rich produced a limited edition t-shirt to benefit the Harvey Milk Foundation. "Richie Rich designs live for Harvey B. Milk Foundation".
On Thursday, February 10, 2011, Rich presented a new collection by design director Angelo Lambrou called Villionaire at the Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom.[4]
