Fictional biography
Richard Harrow was a sharpshooter in the US army during World War I. While there he received an injury which resulted in the loss of his eye, upper jaw and most of the cheek bone on the left side of his face. He has also suffered some throat damage which causes him to speak in a low muffled voice. Due to these injuries he endured heavy scarring. Because of his appearance, Harrow now wears a tin mask in public that was molded to match the right side of his face. After the war he returned to Wisconsin where his twin sister, Emma, cared for him while his wounds healed. Once he was able to care for himself he left to live in Chicago where, in an army hospital, he connects with Jimmy Darmody. After this meeting he was invited to stay with him and his family as well as offering Harrow a job with his bootlegging team as Richard proves to be a good asset to Jimmy for his skills as a marksman and enforcer. Although Richard Harrow is a very gifted killer, he is a troubled soul which will become a brooding inner problem for him as he ventures deeper into the world of organized crime.
