Ray County (Persian: شهرستان ری) is a county in Tehran Province in Iran. The capital of the county is Ray, which is actually part of Tehran. At the 2006 census, the county's population was 292,016, in 71,711 families.[1] The county is subdivided into three districts: the Central District, Kahrizak District, and Fashapuyeh District. The county has three cities: Hasanabad, Kahrizak, and Baqershahr.

Note on Spelling

According to the Iranian Chamber Society, the correct spelling of the city in both English and Persian is "Ray," (with an "a" vowel sound) though variations in spelling also exist.[2] The city university also uses the spelling "Ray" ("Azad University, Shahr-e-Ray")[3] as does the Encyclopædia Iranica published by Columbia University.[4]
