Rena Katō (加藤 玲奈 Katō Rena, born July 10, 1997 in Chiba Prefecture) is a Japanese singer. She is a member of the Japanese female idol group AKB48, at present time she is in Team B.[2] Along with Anna Iriyama and Rina Kawaei, they form the unit Anrire.[3] In 2012, the unit released the single "Ikujinashi Masquerade" with Rino Sashihara from HKT48, topping the Oricon weekly singles chart.[4]

History

On December 17, 2011, Rena Katō, together with 2 other members of AKB48, Ami Maeda and Anna Iriyama, held a large autograph-signing event in Hong Kong. The venue was packed with 6,000 people.[5]

At the end of 2011, while still an AKB48 trainee, she appeared on the cover of the Japanese magazine Weekly Playboy with 7 other members of AKB48 and SKE48. It was the last issue of 2011.[6]

Soon after the TV series Shiritsu Bakaleya Kōkō ended on June 30, 2012, it was announced that Rena Katō would participate in its film adaptation. The movie would star several Johnny's Jr. and AKB48 members.[7][8]
