Remy P. Presas

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Remy P. Presas, Jr. (born November 11, 1963) is the eldest son of the late Remy Presas, founder of the Filipino martial art of Modern Arnis, and Rosemary Pascual Presas. Beginning from a young age, he studied Modern Arnis with his father and, when his father was forced to flee the country, his father's students. Although he saw little of his father during the years from 1974 until the senior Remy Presas' death in 2001, his father asked him during their August 2001 meeting to help preserve and spread the art he had created. Redoubling his training under Filipino masters of the art, he founded his own Modern Arnis organization, Modern Arnis Remy P. Presas International Organization (MARPPIO), with the help of his siblings, Demetrio and Mary Ann Presas. All three are known by the title Punong Guro, and Remy P. Presas is often affectionately referred to as "Remy Jr." in Modern Arnis circles.

Remy P. Presas holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration from Manuel L. Quezon University, Manila, Philippines, and worked as a university professor in the Philippines before moving to the United States. He now lives and teaches in the San Francisco, California area, and also gives seminars.
