Remotely operated vehicle

Remotely operated vehicles are vehicles which are controlled by an operator who is not in the vehicle. These can be operated by radio signals, or through a cable or line connecting the vehicle to the operators location.

• ROUV, more commonly called an ROV, is a remotely operated underwater vehicle
• RCV is a term commonly used to refer to a land-based remotely controlled vehicle
• UAV, commonly called "drones", is a term used to refer to remotely controlled aerial vehicles

RCV was originally used to describe under water remotly controlled vehicles untitt this was registered as a trading name by the Hydroproducts Corp. in the early 1970s as in their RCV225.
