Reilly Smith (born April 1, 1991) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL).

Playing career

College

Smith played three seasons with NCAA Division I college hockey with the Miami RedHawks of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, forgoing his senior year. He scored 122 points in 121 games. During his sophomore and junior season with the RedHawks, he was mostly on the first line.

Professional

On March 25, 2012, the Dallas Stars signed Smith to a three-year entry-level contract.[1] His first NHL goal was scored on February 15, 2013 against Cory Schneider of the Vancouver Canucks.

During the 2012–13 NHL lockout, he played for Dallas' American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars. [2]

On July 4, 2013 Smith was included in a blockbuster trade that took place between the Dallas Stars and Boston Bruins sending Loui Eriksson to Boston and Tyler Seguin to Dallas in a 7 player deal. Boston traded Seguin, Rich Peverley, and Ryan Button to Dallas for Eriksson, Smith, Joe Morrow, and Matt Fraser.[3]

Personal

Reilly is the younger brother of Detroit Red Wings player Brendan Smith and National Lacrosse League player Rory Smith. He is the former roommate of Curtis McKenzie, fellow countryman and also drafted to the Dallas Stars.[4] Reilly also goes by the nickname "Smitty".[5] Currently in a relationship with Boston sports announcer and former Red Sox player, Lou Merloni's daughter.
