Redwood, Ottawa
Redwood is a neighbourhood located in Ottawa's west end. The boundaries of the neighbourhood is Greenbank Road to the east, Baseline Road to the north, Morrison Drive (old Ottawa-Nepean border line) to the west and Highway 417 to the north.
Its sister neighbourhoods are Qualicum, Lesile Park, and Queensway Terrace.
The majority of residents live in apartments and townhouses. The houses are closer to Morrison. The development started in the 1960s and continued throughout the 1970s and 1980s. There are many strips of townhouses on Baseline Road and Draper Avenue. Drpaer venue also runs into the Qualicum community.
A community housing project called Morrison Gardens is located between Morrison, Draper, Lisa and Greenbank. The neighbourhood is known for crime due to street gangs mainly at Morrison and Draper. There is a diverse population of Somalis, Latinos and Arabs.
It contains two schools; St.Paul's High School(formerly Sir John A. MacDonald High School) and Grant Alternative School (formerly Christie Public School). Christie Public School operated in 1969 until 2007.
It is home to two high-rise condominiums called the Redwoods Retirement Residence which were built in the 1980s. It is also home to Morrison Park.
There is business park which is home to Lee Valley, Everest College, and many small offices and businesses.
