Red Nine (Wallace Jackson) is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe. He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #264 (May 1985).
Publication history
Wallace Jackson was a 16-year old who wore a costume designed by his uncle, who worked for NASA. He decided to travel to New York City to play-fight with his favorite superhero, Spider-Man, but proved to be more of a nuisance to the webslinger, and was injured after crashing through a store window. He later confronted Spider-Man again, during which Spider-Man destroyed Red Nine's costume, though Spider-Man later learned that Wallace helped a group of elderly patients against an abusive hospital administrator.[1]
In Avengers: The Initiative, Red Nine appears in Camp Hammond, as an official recruit for the Initiative, along with Ant-Man, Crusader, Melee, Geldoff, Dragon Lord, Geiger, and Diamondback.[2] He is one of the trainees that attempts unsuccessfully to defeat K.I.A.[3]
During the 2008 "Secret Invasion" storyline, Red Nine takes part at the clashes between the Earth's heroes and the Skrulls. After being surrounded by Super-Skrull troops in his first battle and saved by Nick Fury's Secret Warriors, he and his fellow Initiative trainees take part at the final combat against the invading aliens.[4]
After the invasion, Red Nine was assigned to Georgia's Initiative team.[5]
During the 2011 "Fear Itself" storyline, Red Nine appears at a meeting held by Prodigy regarding magical hammers that have crashed into the earth.[6]
Powers and abilities
Red Nine wears a costume which makes him able to fly, and gives him superhuman strength. The costume also gives him a force field protecting him from harm, and enables him to shoot energy bolts.
