The Red-throated Caracara (Ibycter americanus) is a social species of bird of prey in the Falconidae family. It is placed in the monotypic genus Ibycter,[citation needed] or sometimes united in Daptrius with the Black Caracara. Uniquely among caracaras, it mainly feeds on the larvae of bees and wasps, but will also take the adult insects, fruits and berries.[2]
It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests.
