Raton Mesa, also known as Mesa de Maya is located in Las Animas County, Colorado. It was made a National Natural Landmark in 1967.
The 4,183-acre (16.93 km2) mesa is covered by lava that protects it from erosion, in comparison to other sites in the Rocky Mountain foothills that have been subject to weathering and erosion.[1]
