Rational AG is a German manufacturer of industrial food steamers and ovens for catering purposes. The firm is headquartered in Landsberg am Lech, Germany.[2] Since 4 March 2009 it is a constituent of the MDAX index.

History

In 1973, the Rational GmbH was founded by Mr. Siegfried Meister. Three years later, the company started manufacturing combi steamers for commercial kitchens. In the year 2000, the company went public and therefore is now named Rational AG. Besides the combi steamer, the company also sells the SelfCooking Center (since 2004) and the VarioCooking Center (since 2005, sold through FRIMA brand).

Starting in 1991, the following subsidiaries have been founded around the world: United Kingdom (1991), France (1992), Japan (1992), United States (1993), Italy (1998), Scandinavia (1998), Switzerland (1999), Canada (1999), Spain (2000), Russia (2003), Austria (2005), Poland (2005), China (2007), Greece (2007), Middle East (2007), Ukraine (2007), Brazil (2009) and India (2010), Mexico ( 2012).

The company's founder, Siegfried Meister, is the chairman of the supervisory board since December 1998.
