Rasheedah Widah Buckner Frost (born May 25, 1982)[1] better known by her stage name Rasheeda (often stylized RaSheeda), is an American hip hop recording artist from Atlanta, Georgia. Rasheeda was a member of the teenage hip-hop trio Da Kaperz, until 2000 when she launched her solo career. Her fifth album Certified Hot Chick, was released on August 18, 2009. She is also part of the hip hop/R&B duo Peach Candy, with R&B singer-songwriter Kandi Burruss.
Rasheeda is a cast member of VH1 hit reality television show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.
Music career
Music beginnings
Rasheeda had an early start to her career. As an adolescent, she and two of her friends formed hip-hop girl group Da Kaperz. Da Kaperz signed with recording label D-Lo Entertainment, with whom she continues to work. Just a year later, Rasheeda began her career as a solo artist. In 2001, she released her album Dirty South, through D-Lo and Motown Records. Bolstered by guest appearances from Pastor Troy, Thugz Nation, Nelly and Re-Re, the album achieved some notoriety, with some considering the singles to be modern hip-hop anthems.
While Dirty South placed her firmly in the hip-hop genre, Rasheeda further refined her sound with her second album, 2002's Ghetto Dream, an indie release under D-Lo. The Ghetto Dream sound features faster rhythms, bolder beats, and assistance from Lil' Jon and the Eastside Boyz.
After the Crunk era
Rasheeda was featured on Nivea's Complicated. Soon after, Rasheeda released several successful mixtapes. Her efforts did not go unnoticed, and she quickly began to establish her name and unique brand. Rasheeda paid homage to her Southern roots with her third album, GA Peach. More intimate lyrics in GA Peach were combined with a slightly slower rhythm. The sexier, dirtier lyrics made it a favorite in the club circuits. With 2007's Dat Type of Gurl, Rasheeda reprised some of her earlier works from GA Peach. Many of her old tracks were updated with remixes and samples. In the summer of 2009, D-Lo Entertainment partnered with independent record label Block Starz Music to release Rasheeda's debut mixtape Certified.[2][3][4][5]
Currently
In 2012 Rasheeda landed a spot with her husband/manager Kirk Frost on VH1's Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. Rasheeda has two sons Ky and Karter. After the release of 'Certified Hot Chick' she released 4 volumes of her mixtapes 'Boss Bitch Music' and in 2012 she released her album Boss Chick Music which was featured on the tenth season of Bad Girls Club (season 10), through Google Play and her label D-Lo Entertainment, which featured a mixture of original songs from her mixtapes and new material. Her first single from the album was entitled "Marry Me" and her second "Legs To The Moon", both of which followed by a music video. In 2013 during the second season run of Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta, Rasheeda shot a music video for 'Hit It From The Back'. She is currently running an apparel and accessory website "I'm Bossy".
