Randa is a town in central Djibouti. Located in the Tadjoura region, it is the capital of the Randa District. The settlement lies in a small valley, and is situated between the Goda Mountains and the N9 highway.

Overview

Nearby towns and villages include Balho (30.1 nm), Medeho (22.8 nm), Dorra (21.1 nm), `Assa Gaila (20.7 nm), Tadjoura (13.7 nm), Airolaf (4.6 nm) and Bankouale (1.6 nm).

Geography

Randa's altitude gives the settlement and the surrounding area a milder climate than the Djibouti City coastal area, where the weather is typically hotter. A river runs through the town. Often dry, the watercourse divides Randa in half.

Wildlife

Due to the fertility and greenery of the region, wild animals come to the area either to breed or to graze on the grassland savannah.

Climate

Randa has a semi-arid climate, with generally warm winters and hot summers. Despite its location in the tropics, due to the high altitude, the town seldom experiences either hot or cold weather. This is a trait rarely seen in regions with a semi-arid climate. Average monthly temperatures in Randa range from 14°C in the months of December and January to 34.7°C in June.
