Rana Hemant Singh

Hemant Singh, Lokendra Bahadur, Diler Jang Jai Deo (5 January 1951-) is the present titular Maharaj Rana of Dholpur.

Early life

Hemant Singh was born as the second son of Maharaja Pratap Singh of Nabha and his wife, Maharani Urmila Devi Sahiba (1924–1997). When he was three years old, his maternal grandfather, Rana Udaybhanu Singh of Dholpur, died, and he was adopted by his maternal grandmother as her late husband's heir. Hemant Singh received an education at the Doon School and at Hindu College, Delhi University, from which institution he took a BA in 1971. He ascended the Dholpur gadi in 1969, but was derecognized as a ruler by the Indira Gandhi regime and stripped of his privy purse two years later.

Personal

On 17 November 1972, Rana Hemant Singh married Maharajkumari Shrimant Vasundhara Raje Sahib Scindia (8 March 1953-), the third daughter of George Jivajirao Scindia of Gwalior and Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia. The couple separated the following year, having had one son:

  • Shri Dushyant Singh Jai Deo Bahadur, Yuvraj Sahib of Dholpur, MP (11 September 1973-). Educated at the Doon School, St. Stephen's College at Delhi University (BA), Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI, USA and at the International Hotel and Tourism Training Institute in Switzerland. Interned in Calcutta 1994-1995, at the Beau-Rivage Palace in Geneva in 1997 and at the Hyatt Regency Hilton Head in South Carolina, USA from 1998-1999. Served as a Manager with Sheraton Hotels in the USA from 1999–2002, and with the Hospitality Valuation Servies (HVS)in New Delhi in 2002. MLA for Jhalawar in the Rajasthan State Assembly from 2002–2004, MP (Lok Sabha) for Jhalawar since 2004. Married 11 December 2000 Yuvrani Niharika Raje Sahiba, daughter of the Raja of Samthar, and has a son and a daughter:
    • Rajkumari Shri Bhairawi Raje Sahiba (2001-)
    • Rajkumar Shri Nihal Singh Jai Deo (2004-)

Present Life

In 1973, Hemant Singh settled permanently at Panchsheel Marg in Delhi, and on 17 May 2007,
handed over the Dholpur palaces, lands and state jewellery to the care of his son.
