Raju Shetti (born 01 June 1967),is an Indian Politician and Member of Parliament of India from Hatkanangle constituency in the 15th Lok Sabha .[1] He is the president of the Swabhimani Paksha, the political party which he founded in 2004, after separating from the Shetkari Sanghatana. He also founded Swabhimani Shetkari Saghtana.

Early life

Shetti was born in Shirol in Kolhapur district of Maharashtra.

Career

Raju Shetti is a member of the 15th Lok Sabha of India. He represents the Hatkanangle constituency of Maharashtra. Before being elected as MP he was MLA of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2009.[2] To become MLA of Shirol constituency, he defeated Rajendra Patil and Rajni Magdum, both were the Chairpersons of different Sugar factories.[3]

He is mainly popular for his movements for maximum price for sugar-cane and milk. He is editor of a Marathi fortnighty "Swabhimani Vichar".[4][5]

Award

On 22 Dec 2011 he was presented with the Lokmat Maharashtrian of Year 2011 awards in Mumbai by President Pratibha Patil.
