Rajendra Mal Lodha

Rajendra Mal Lodha ( R M Lodha) is a former chief justice of Patna High Court.

He was born on 28 September [1] 1949 at Jodhpur to Justice S. K. Mal Lodha, former Judge of Rajasthan High Court .

He took B.Sc. & LL.B. Degrees from Jodhpur University and enrolled with Bar council of Rajasthan on February, 1973, and started practice at Jodhpur. Shifted to Jaipur in the year 1977 on formation of Jaipur Bench.

He practised in the High Court and dealt with all branches of Law; Constitutional, Civil, Company, Criminal, Taxation, Labour etc.

He Was Central Government Standing Counsel in charge of entire litigation of Union of India at Jaipur Bench from the year 1990 to 1992. Represented Rajasthan High Court in important matters as Special Counsel. Argued many important cases on behalf of number of Government bodies, Semi-Government bodies, Public Authorities like the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation, Rajasthan Text Book Board, Rajasthan Agricultural Marketing Board, Bharatpur Central Co-operative Bank, Rajasthan State Electricity Board, New India Assurance Company, Oriental Insurance Company, Kendriya Vidyalaya etc.

Was Member of Committee with Justice R.S. Kejriwal of Rajasthan High Court to suggest amendments in Rajasthan Rent Control Act, 1950.

He has participated in important conferences, study groups and training programmes meant for Superior Judiciary on intellectual property, gender bias and HIV/AIDS.

Took oath of office as Permanent Judge, Rajasthan High Court at Jodhpur on and transferred to Bombay High Court on 31 January 1994 where he assumed office on . Life member of Indian Law Institute, N.Delhi. On 2 February 2007 he was transferred to Rajasthan High Court as its senior-most judge.

In May 2008 he was promoted to Chief Justice of Bihar State.

On 17 December 2008 Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan swore-in Justice R M Lodha as a judge of the Supreme Court of India. With this he becomes one of the 24 judges in Republic of India's apex court. The bench of R M Lodha, Madan Lokur and Kurian Joseph hear the controversial Indian Coal Allocation Scam and vowed to free CBI from any political and bureaucratic interference. [2]
