Rajajinagar is a residential locality in the west of Bangalore. It is bordered by Basaveshwaranagar, Malleshwaram, Mahalakshmipuram, Mahalakshmi Layout, Vijayanagar and Rajajinagar Industrial Suburb. Rajajinagar is divided into two stages, first and second. Rajajinagar 3rd Block was formerly called Yednoor Dinne and 4th Block was formerly called Siddaram Dinne. Rajajinagar 1st stage is further divided into 6 blocks from north to south. The 4th block is further divided into the 4th M block and the 4th N block. The other names of some of the areas constituting Rajajinagar are Subramanyanagara, Kethmaranahalli, Nagapura, Shivanahalli or Shivanagara, Manjunathanagara, Mariyappanapalya, Prakashnagara, Srirampuram, etc. A four-lane grade separator makes it easy for vehicular traffic to move out of Rajajinagar towards Okalipuram.

The area to the west of Chord Road was earlier considered to be a part of Rajajinagar, but most maps today show that area as a part of Basaveshwaranagar. Chord Road is one of the longest roads in Bangalore connecting Yeswanthpur through Mahalakshmi Layout, Rajajinagar, Vijaynagar, R. P. C. Layout and Attiguppe to Mysore Road - about 8 kilometres in length.

Rajajinagar has many schools and colleges that are known to give the best education in Bangalore.[citation needed]

Rajajinagar was named after C. Rajagopalachari - Rajaji, for short - the great freedom fighter from Tamil Nadu, who was also the first non-British or "native" Governor-General of India.

Recent Developments

Rajajinagar has become a major hub in the last few years after construction near the Yeswanthpur-Rajajinagar-Malleswaram corridor opened up massive apartment complexes and there has been an increase in real estate value. With the inauguration of Bangalore Metro soon, Rajajinagar has attracted a lot of attention. People from neighboring areas who work in metro construction have also started living here.
