RTB1 is the first and oldest free-to-air government terrestrial television channel in Brunei it was officially began broadcasting to regular television set services on 1 March 1975.

RTB1 broadcasts for 18-hours in daily from 06:00 until 00:00 BSTwith simulcast of RTB4 International filling rest of the time.

During non-operating hours with simultaneously channel will direct broadcast to RTB4 International for 6-hours in daily from 00:00 until 06:00 BST.

RTB1 mainly shows documentaries, educational programmes and news to programmes from RTB4 International are usually relayed for other times.

History

Radio

Radio Brunei was launched (without television service) on 2 May 1957 with a Hari Raya Aidilfitri opened by 28th Sultan of Brunei Darussalam's Al-Marhum Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Paduka Seri Baginda Maulana Al-Sultan Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien Tiga. The typical broadcast on the radio channel lasts for 45-minutes each evening from 20:00 until 20:45 BST. The range of the single 1.2Kw transmitter was only five miles around the capital Brunei and surrounding areas.

On 1 March 1975, Radio Brunei is a first radio stations Televisyen Brunei is a first television stations was launched.

As of 1974, RTB has 171-staff and 3-transmitting sites giving almost 100% coverage of the country and beyond.

Television

Televisyen Brunei it was officially launched the pilot television set service on 1 February 1975 as "Channel 5" after successful test of transmissions. RTB1 it was officially launched the regular television set services opened by 29th Sultan of Brunei Darussalam's Kebawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah on 1 March 1975 with full coverage in the Brunei-Muara District. On 1 March 1976, 2-high power medium wave stations in the Brunei-Muara District commenced transmission, expanding the coverage of radio and television services to almost 100% of the country.
