Quinton House School is a profit-making coeducational independent school located in Upton, Northampton, England. The school is owned and operated by the Cognita Group. Quinton House School is one of two co-educational independent schools to offer senior education in Northampton.
History
The school originally operated from premises in Northampton. In 1946 the Upton Hall estate was sold by the last private owner to a trust with the converted property opening as Upton Hall School. The establishment was renamed Quinton House School in 1966. Ownership of the school buildings passed to Northampton Borough Council in 1986, with the school remaining as tenant of the buildings.
The 1990s saw extensive renovations and upgrading of facilities at Quinton House, including a new sports field, pavilion and sixth form centre (including classrooms and common rooms for students). Ownership of the school passed to Cognita in 2004, with the school celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2006.
The current headmaster is John Ing, formerly of Stowe School. He replaced Geraint Jones who became the Director of Education for the Cognita Schools Group in the UK.
The school today
At Upton Hall some of the buildings date from the 14th century. However, there have been more recent developments at the school, such as enclosing the current open air courtyard, with a bespoke glazed atrium construction. This area is used as a dining room and assembly for the Junior School. The school takes pupils aged 2 through to 18, and is divided into a Nursery, Junior, Senior schools, and the Sixth Form. The school was the first to join the Cognita Group, with Cognita now being the largest independent schools business in the UK.
