Coordinates: 22°42′57″S 43°33′18″W / 22.71583°S 43.55500°W / -22.71583; -43.55500 Queimados (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈkeɪˈmaduʃ]) is a city and a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Its population was 136,509 (2005) and its area is 77 km².[1]

Queimados is a town in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro. Located at 22 º 42'58 "south latitude and 43 º 33'19" west longitude at an altitude of 29 meters. The estimated population by IBGE in 2009 was 139,378 inhabitants. [6] Story

It occupies an area of 76.921 km ², integrating the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro.

Queimados Station There are three versions more likely to name. The first says that when the Emperor Dom Pedro I went through that region, at the inauguration of the train station, he saw a large fire that was being made of orange groves in the hills, and named the place "Hill of Queimados ." The second is that the name refers to the burned bodies of lepers, to the mountains, who died in a leper colony that existed there, where now stands the Lazaretto Road, a major route in the city. There is also a third version, which states that the name of the city comes from runaway slaves from farms that were killed and had their bodies burned by their masters. He became a municipality in 1991, when emancipated from Nova Iguaçu. It is the hometown of former paquita Giselle Delaia.
