"Qizil Ulduz" Medal (Golden Star) (Azerbaijani: "Qızıl Ulduz" medalı) is a medal of National Hero of Azerbaijan, a special decoration of a National Hero of Azerbaijan.

The medal is created by Abulfaz Elchibey, the former President of Azerbaijan on March 25, 1992 by the Decree No.201.[1] Initially this medal was given to 23 people in June 1992.

This award is conferred for bravery and courage shown in defense of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan Republic, for protection of the world population.

History

Initially the medal was in form of gold-filled crescent, directed to the right, within which was located an eight-edged star with flat dihedral rays on the front face.

Rare side of the medal has a flat surface and is bounded with a thin fillet going beyond along the cutout. An inscription with salient letters "National Hero of Azerbaijan" is located on the rare side of the medal. There is a number of 1mm heights on the upper ray of the medal. With the help of eye ring the medal is attached to gold-filled block, which is a pentagonal plate of 20 mm heights and 26 mm width and framed by a fillet along perimeter. There are slits along a root of the block and its inner side is covered with a tricolor moiré ribbon according to colors of the National Flag of Azerbaijan. Total weigh is 21.5 grams. According to the Decree No. 429 "Qizil ulduz" medal was released as a sign of the "National Hero of Azerbaijan" after making modifications and additions on the former Decree.

The new "Qizil Ulduz" medal is an eight-ended star with flat dihedral rays of 31.5 mm diameter, attached to a pentagonal plate, which is bordered with a 27 X 20 mm fillet along the perimeter, with two eye rings.[2] Inner side of the plate is covered with moiré ribbon, the colors of which are corresponding to the National Flag of Azerbaijan (blue, red and green). There is an inscription of Azərbaycanın Milli Qəhrəmanı in the center of the rare side of the medal. There is a serial number carved on the upper ray of the medal. The medal is pinned to the left side of the chest above other orders and medals.
