Election results
The results of the elections were greatly affected by the turbulent days in the late days of the month of April and early days of the month of May, leading to EDSA III rebellion by thousands of pro-Estrada followers who mobbed Malacañan Palace during the early hours of May 1, 2001. Some believe that some senatorial candidates urged the people to rise against the government that led to the bloody May 1 Riots in Manila. As a result, the senatorial candidates paid their price by winning only 5 out of 13 possible seats in the Senate.
The winners from the opposition were:
- Edgardo Angara
- Noli de Castro
- Luisa Estrada
- Gregorio Honasan
- Panfilo Lacson
