Putera Sampoerna (Chinese: 林天喜; pinyin: Lín Tiānxǐ Hokkien: Liem Tien Pao; born 13 October 1947 in Schiedam) is one of Indonesia's richest men, with a fortune of more than US$2 billion.[2] He gained his wealth as heir to the Sampoerna cigarette company (PT HM Sampoerna Tbk.), one of Indonesia's largest. Putera had been educated abroad from an early age; starting from the Diocesan Boys' School in Hong Kong, the Carey Baptist Grammar School in Melbourne and finally at the University of Houston in Texas. He led the company from 1978 until 2000, when he was replaced by his son Michael Sampoerna. In 2005 he sold his family's shares and thus the company itself to Philip Morris International.[3] After the sale of PT HM Sampoerna, Putera and his family founded investment company Sampoerna Strategic, currently led by his son Michael. Sampoerna Strategic has businesses in the telecommunications, agriculture (palm oil plantations), forestry and microfinance industry. Putera and his family are also heavily engaged in philanthropic activities through the Putera Sampoerna Foundation, which he founded in 2001. The foundation's primary activities are focused on improving education in Indonesia.
Sampoerna A's journey (1988–1997)
A Mild was established with a capital of USD 150 million as of October 19, 1988 relating to the company's 25-year House Of Sampoerna (1963–1988). Putera established a factory in Surabaya in April 1987 that at that time the name of PT HM Sampoerna still called House Of Sampoerna. A Mild's employees when it was first established initially numbered 38 people, including Adiguna Yos Ginting. Groundbreaking on April 1, 1988 and was built on a land area of 7,500 square meters in Surabaya. After a long period of development between the months of April 1987 to October 1988, when the A Mild yet standing, A Mild was established on October 19, 1988 relating to the company's 25-year House Of Sampoerna (1963–1988), and the first product A Mild when it contains 12 cigarettes, launched on October 21, 1988.

To add to that success, Sampoerna was established Sampoerna A International in 1997, nine years after A Mild and four years after A King, while in 1997 because of the financial crisis, Sampoerna took over of all Sampoerna A brands (after A Mild was introduced in 1988, A King in 1993, A International in 1997). At the Monetary Crisis 1997–1999, A Mild (and Sampoerna other products: A King and A International) has been criticized for its price increased by almost 3 times as much as usual, which was originally worth Rp. 6,000.00 now to Rp. 17,000.00. Since 1998, after the Indonesian revolution, A brands made an ad campaign about revolutionary (including A Mild that was created in 1988, A King in 1993 and A International in 1997).
Anniversaries
A Mild celebrated its 25th anniversary, A King celebrated its 20th anniversary, and A International celebrated its 16th anniversary.
