Punggol Waterway Park is a 12.25 hectares (122,500 m2) riverine park located in Punggol, Singapore, along Sentul Crescent Road. The park consists of four themed areas. Each area is designated to cater to different users of the park.

History

The Punggol Waterway Park and "My Waterway @ Punggol" are joint agency projects between HDB and National Parks Board. The project is part of HDB's 'emaking Our Heartland' initiatives to turn Punggol Town into a 'Waterfront Town' of the 21st century. The Waterway runs through the Punggol Waterway Park, and both serve to increase park and water frontage for the housing estate and provide a green respite for residents. Designed with four themes to cater to residents of all ages, the park also provides residents opportunities for leisure activities such as jogging and cycling which can be carried out along the promenade at both sides of the waterway.[1]

Themes

  • Nature Cove
    • At the Nature Cove, visitors can relax and enjoy the scenic view of the Waterway. They can also enjoy leisure activities at the lawn area.
  • Recreation Zone
    • Specially catering to families with family members of all ages, he Recreation Zone allows families to enjoy activities such as water play and sand play. There is also a fitness corner for all ages.
  • Heritage Zone
    • Along this zone, there are mature trees and vegetation along the stretch of the old
  • Green Gallery
    • Here, visitorscan take a stroll and admire the mature trees which are conserved together with the natural terrain of the park. One round of the whole Punggol Waterway (including PCN track) is about 8.4 km (Distance includes crossing the bridges).

Facilities and activities

Facilities

There are sand play areas and fitness corners and also children's playground in the park. Other than that, there are two venues that are available for the public to book for events, which are the Nature Cove Lawn and Activity Lawn 1. The Nature Cove Lawn has an area of 5,500 square metres and has a maximum capacity of 3,000 people while the Activity Lawn 1 is only 2,700 square metres and has a smaller capacity of 1,700 persons.

Activities

Visitors can enjoy activities such as cycling and inline skating in the park. A new 26 km nature loop which links up four parks in Sengkang and Punggol was officially on February 25, 2012, connecting Sengkang Riverside Park, Punggol Park, Punggol Waterway Park and Punggol Point Park, allowing visitors to cycle, skate or jog to the next park. The park connector also has a rich biodiversity, such as water birds like the Grey Heron or the White-throated Kingfisher.[2]
