Puñal is a city in Santiago de los Caballeros. Puñal became rural section of the municipality of Santiago de los Caballeros in 1937, comprising the spots: Guayabal, Matanzas y Laguna Prieta. In February of the year 2006 the rural section of Puñal was high to category of municipality, by means of the Law 145-06. Remained comprising the district municipal Guayabal y Canabacoa, with its respective sections and spots, and by the Arenoso, La Javilla y Matanzas.
