Ptychochromoides itasy is a species of cichlid fish from central Madagascar. Until rediscovered in a pond in late 2010, it was only known from Lake Itasy where last seen in the 1970s.[2] Consequently it was considered extinct and remains listed as such by the IUCN.[1] The reason for its extirpation from Lake Itasy was likely habitat degradation and competition/predation by introduced species.[1] This species can reach a length of 12.3 centimetres (4.8 in) SL.[3]
