Located at the mouth of the Kauner valley on the upper Inn, it is 10 km south of the city of Landeck and 1 km below Faggen. It was first mentioned in documents in 1028. Primarily a tourist resort, the town's other main source of income is electricity generation at a hydro-power plant linked by as 14.8 km long pipe to the Gepatsch Reservoir (or Gepatsch Stausee), which was constructed in 1964.
