Private Line is the debut solo album by Gerald Levert, following his tenure with the group LeVert. It was released on October 15, 1991, and reached number one on the Top R&B Albums chart where it spent two weeks in 1992. It also topped the Top Heatseekers album chart and peaked at #48 on the Billboard 200. It spawned four singles: the title track, "School Me (#3 R&B)," "Can U Handle It" (#9 R&B) and "Baby Hold On to Me" (a duet with his father, Eddie Levert). Both "Private Line" and "Baby Hold On to Me" were his only two solo singles to top the R&B Singles chart, with the latter being his first top 40 pop hit.
