Prithvi is an Indian Kannada film released in 2010 directed by Jacob Vargheese and produced by NS Rajkumar starring Puneet Rajkumar and Parvati Menon in lead roles. Manikanth Kadri composed the music of the film. The film is based on the current political scenario in Karnataka.[1]

Plot

Prithvi Kumar is an honest young IAS Officer who get to work as District Commissioner for Bellary District. His main aim is to eradicate the ongoing corruption in the District and stick to his principles, honesty and Corruptionless administration.

Once he take over the office, he will be taken aback knowing the fact the common people of the area are drinking the contaminated water daily that is polluted by unstoppable illegal mining companies. Due to contaminated water, he notices, people falling ill and foresees the future may be very critical in case the people continue to have the same water for drinking.

His next mission is to find out the reason behind polluted water and seizes all illegal mining companies around Bellary with no mercy. As a result, Bellary Mining Lords decide to warn the IAS Officer and when they understand Prithvi is adamant and hellbent on his mission, try to kill him.

How Prithvi reacts to Bellary Mining Lords conspiracy, even dare to question Government's decision and be successful in his mission against illegal mining companies is the further story of the film .

Reception

The film got mostly positive reviews from critics. Puneeth got critical appreciation for his excellent expressions and body language. Parvathi Menon has also done good job. While Avinash and John Kokin is impressive with their villanious role.

Relevance to the current affairs: Entry & tacit support of many mining & realty barons into politics has set a bad precedent n already Karnataka's political landscape is endangered & has lost credibility, which will definitely change the way & how our political system will function in future. No wonder, Karnataka is the most corrupt state in India as per some famous periodical is not an aberration but a reality because of the people we are choosing as our representatives.

The film which has this real theme was a hit and ran for more than 150 days in cinemas.[2]

Box office

The film got huge opening. The collections have been very good and collection was about 20cr the film has completed 125 days of successful exhibition. The film was also dubbed in Malayalam & was well received by the audiences.

The music for the film is scored by Manikanth Kadri. In fact the music is one of the highlights of the movie with some wonderful lyrics and musical score. It is truly a nice and unique album. The background score of the movie is another highlight.
