Pritam Chakraborty better known as Pritam, is a music director and composer from Kolkata who currently composes music for Bollywood. Pritam has completed a decade in Bollywood as a solo music director giving chartbusters like Dhoom Machale from Dhoom. Pritam's latest album release is the soundtrack of Dhoom 3.

Career

Pritam moved to Mumbai after completing his sound engineering course from FTII Pune. During his stay in Mumbai, he began composing ad jingles and became friendly with a number of other young strugglers like Shantanu Moitra, Rajkumar Hirani, Sanjay Gadhvi and Jeet Ganguly. During this time, Pritam composed famous jingles for brands like Santro, Emami, Head and shoulders and also composed title tracks for tele serials like Astitva, Kavyanjali, Yeh meri lifehain, Remix, Kashmir, Mili, Dil kya kare.

Pritam got his first break when Sanjay Gadhvi was signed on to direct ″Tere Liye″ and he, in turn, signed on his friends Jeet and Pritam as music composers. Though the music was well received, the film sank at the box office. However, in 2002, Jeet and Pritam were signed for Yash Raj Films, Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai also directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. After some time, Jeet and Pritam went separate ways and started composing solo.

Solo career

Pritam's career as a solo composer began with ″Fun2shh...Dudes in the 10th Century″, ″Agnipankh″, ″Ankahee″ etc. In 2004, Pritam composed the music for Sanjay Gadhvi's film, Dhoom, which was a runaway success with ″Dhoom Machale″ topping the charts everywhere.

The success of Dhoom continued with a string of hit songs like Halka Halka from Chocolate, Garam Masala, Gangster, Woh Lamheand Dhoom 2 Life In A Metro directed by Anurag Basu, portrayed Pritam in a different manner where he featured in the film as part of the Metro band in 2007.

Pritam went on to score films like Singh Is King, Kismat Konnection, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Awarapan, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Goal, Jab We Met, Race, Naqaab, Jannat, Billu, Love Aaj Kal, Golmaal Returns, Tum Mile, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, De Dana Dan, Badmaash Company, Raajneeti, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai, Crook, Action Replayy, Golmaal 3, Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, Dum Maaro Dum, Ready, Mausam, Desi Boyz, Players, Agent Vinod (2012 film), Jannat 2, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, Cocktail, Barfi!, Race 2, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani, Once Upon ay Time in Mumbai Dobaara! and more.

Television

Pritam has mentored and judged for Zee TV's, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009. Pritam also judged for Chhote Ustaad. He has also featured in the NDTV Greenathon. Pritam has featured in the programme X factor, as a guest judge and has also appeared for Zee Bangla Saregamapa 2012-2013 as the guest judge for the Grand Finale.

He has composed the track for Hrithik Roshan's TV debut, Just Dance.

Live shows

Pritam has performed live all over India and abroad, in cities like Dubai, Singapore, Lagos, Muscat etc.

Legacy

In the earlier part of his career, Pritam had to struggle to make the transition from ad-films/jingles to mainstream cinema, though, after the stupendous success of Dhoom and other films he acquired the reputation of a hitmaker. However, in 2007 he changed his sonic direction towards a more rock and pop based sound.[1] Eventually he even tried his hand in Sufi (Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai) and Ghazal music (Barfi!).
