The Princeton Packet is a semi-weekly newspaper serving the Princeton, New Jersey area. The company traces its lineage to 1786. The Princeton Packet Inc. is the publisher of 12 community newspapers, a weekly arts and entertainment supplement, a monthly magazine and a series of local-news-based websites. The paper was purchased by former Wall Street Journal publisher Barney Kilgore in 1955, inherited by his family after his death, and has been expanded by acquisition of newspapers in adjoining towns. According to its advertiser kit, the Packet's circulation as of 2013 was approximately 20,000.[1] The company's products serve more than 40 municipalities in the New Jersey counties of Mercer, Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Burlington and Ocean County.
In January 2009 the Packet website *www.packetonline.com became *centraljersey.com
It was announced in November 2011 that the Princeton Packet was for sale; general manager Brad Koltz expressed interest in buying the company.[2] President and Publisher James B. Kilgore decided against selling in March 2012, saying he realized he was not ready to retire.
