Primus Telecommunications Canada, Inc. is the largest alternative telecommunications service provider in Canada. Primus Canada offers a wide selection of consumer and business telecommunications services available nationwide including Internet, VoIP, Home Phone, Long Distance, Wireless, Hosting, Managed Services and Enterprise IP Telephony. In the United States, Primus provides reliable and affordable digital home phone (VoIP) service under the Lingo brand. Primus Canada, acquired by York Capital Management in July 2013, was founded in 1997 and has since grown to over 600 employees in offices across Canada including Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, London and Edmundston.

Acquisition of Magma Communications

In early 2004, Primus Canada acquired Ottawa-based Magma Communications Ltd.,[1] an ISP with customers based mostly in the Ottawa and Toronto metropolitan areas.[citation needed] In 2006, Primus Canada merged Magma's customer databases, services and call centres into its own organization, gradually phasing out the Magma brand.[citation needed]

Sale of Primus Canada and Primus US Retail Telecom Assets To York Capital Management

On Friday, May 10, 2013,[2] Primus Telecommunications Group announced the sale of their North American retail telecommunications operations in the United States and Canada to York Capital Management for about US$129 million. The deal is expected to close in 3Q2013.
