President's Cup (since 2005) for association football, formerly known as the National Championship,[1] is said to be the birth of the game in the Maldives. The very first tournament was held in 1946, with 2007 saw its 57th edition. The first edition ended with Customs and Naadhee Ahthamadhun both sharing the trophy.

The current format of the President's Cup allow only the top four teams of Dhivehi League to participate.
