Praveen Chakravarty is a financial services professional, public policy activist, active angel investor. Chakravarty took a break from his investment banking career to spend a year as a volunteer with the UID project under Nandan Nilekani, in their financial inclusion inititaive. Post his voluntary stint, he moved back to investment banking as CEO of an Indian investment bank. Previously, he was a Managing Director at BNP Paribas Securities' India.[1] Chakravarty spent 17 years of his working life in the technology and financial services sectors.

Early life

Praveen Chakravarty is an alumnus of BITS, Pilani and an MBA from Wharton School, currently Working as CEO of Anand Rathi Group

Career

Praveen Chakravarty started his career with IBM in Japan and subsequently moved to Microsoft. He switched to investment banking in New York and San Francisco, after receiving his MBA from Wharton. Chakravarty was involved with angel networks in San Francisco and upon returning to India in 2005, he became an active angel investor and co-founded Mumbai Angels

Chakravarty serves on the boards of four companies and acts as adviser to many firms in the education sector. He was the founding board member of InMobi (erstwhile mKhoj) and serves on board of BSE Institute, Centre for Civil Society and TVS Electronics.

Chakravarty's frequent opinion articles in newspapers are insightful and challenge conventional wisdom. He is said to have donated liberally to alternative journalism initiative India Spend and legislative research firm PRS Legislative. Chakravarty has written many opinion articles on elections [2] and he was also reportedly actively involved in election campaign of south Mumbai MP Milind Deora in 2009. [3] [4]
