Prakkanam is a village in Pathanamthitta district in the state of Kerala, India. It is situated between Omallur and Elanthoor. Rubber is the main crop cultivated in this village. The primary religious beliefs of the villagers are Hinduism and Christianity. Many temples and churches of worship are located in Prakkanam.

Edanattu Bhadrakali Temple

Edanattu Bhadrakali Temple is situated near Prakkanam Junction. Bhadrakali is the principal deity. Ganapathy, Siva, Yogiswara, Yakshi, Rakshas, Chamundeswari and Nagaraja are also worshipped here.Main Offerings are Vishnussahasra namarchana, Bhagya sooktharchana, Purusha sooktharchana, Sreesooktharchana, Swayamvararchana, Sathrusamhararchana, Other types of Archanas, Impoli and Various types of niraparas.Every Year Bhagavatha sapthaham is being celebrated,it's been held on last day of mandalakalam.

Temple's annual festival is celebrated on Makayiram star of Malayalam Month Meenam. Padayani is the main art form being performed on festival day, in olden days it extends about 21 days. Kettukazhcha is another peculiarity of festival. Each 'Karas' bring Kettukazhcha and assemble at Temple. Padayanippara Kottakayattam is another ceremony related to Festival. It is the travel of 'OOrali' from the temple to the Maladevar Nada of Padayanippara Malankavu.

Social and Spiritual Activities: Temple's Sree Bhadra Balagokulam is an organisation for children.It's prime objective is to develop awareness about Hindu philosophy, Vedas, Puranas, etc. Classes are being held every Sunday morning from 8.30am to 10am. Several art and Sport programmes are included in the regular classes. Many programs are organised in every sessions.Mathru Sangham is another Organisation catering to empowering Women.

Kaithavana Durga Temple

Another important Temple situated in Prakkanam is Kaithavana Durga Temple. It is under the control of Kerala Kshetra Samrakshana Samithi. Durga Devi is the principal deity. Ganapathy, Sasthaav, Yogiswara, Rakshas, Yakshi, Nagaraja and Nagayakshi also worshipped here. Here Kottakayattam ceremony is also celebrated.

St. Mary's Orthodox Church (Valiyapalli)

This church is one of the old and famous churches in Kerala, this church having more than 125 years of history, and this church also called as Valiya Palli in Malayalam, that means Big Church. In this church we can see the classical touch of Kerala as well as western architecture so that is the reason Kerala tourism department promoting this church in tourism Map. Mor Ignatius Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church

This church is also called Kuttumuruppel Palli. It is situated about 2 km away from the heart of Prakkanam. The church was founded in 1932. The first holy qurbana was offered by Late Rev. F. R. Thomas Parackel, appointed as first Vicar by HG Mor Dionasious Michael, on May 12, 1932. To mark the 75th year of the church's founding, the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations were conducted on 26–29 December 2006. On 29 December 2009 the church published its website.[1]

Thottupuram St. Mary's Orthodox Church

This church is situated at the east side of Prakkanam. It was established 98 years ago. E. Thomas Upadesi and E. T. Mathai Upadesi were two great missionaries of the church. Now there are four priests and two nuns among the members of the church.One of the famous church in prakkanam is St Mary's orthodox church.[2]

St. Stephen's CMS Anglican Church, Prakkanom

Mar Basalius Educational and Charitable Society, Prakkanam (MBECS)

This is a charitable society registered under the Charitable Act. Its main purpose is to help the poor people who are in need. It gives educational loans, helps the sick, and distributes goats to poor families. Nearly 100 goats were distributed. The Very Reverend James E. Mathew Cor Episcopa Elavunilkunnathil is the current president of the society.

Sport

Volleyball

Volleyball is the main game played at Prakkanam. There is a volleyball court owned by Chenneerkkara Grama Panchayath.

The Santhosh sports and arts club formed in the 1950 had a great impact on the young generation developing their sports and cultural activities.

Cricket

Cricket is also very popular here and played by kids on small grounds.

Santhosh Sports & Arts Club

Santhosh Sports & Arts Club (SS&AC) is the oldest cultural club in Prakkanam. For volleyball it was a champions of Pathanamthitta. Nowadays there is no activity in this club.

Nanma Arts And Sports Club

Nanma Arts And Sports Club is a sports-cultural organisation. Its functioning as a promoter of the game volleyball. In the occasions of Onam and Christmas, they actively participate the celebrations. Most of the members in the club are youngsters below an age of thirty. They conduct several sports programs also like "All Kerala Volleyball Tournament".

Veda Clinic

Veda Ayurvedic Nursing Home recently started a branch in Prakkanam. It is providing medical care in the village. Its standing opposite to the Government LPS Prakkanam. Both Ayurvedic and Modern medicinal care are available.

Prakkanam Public Library

Prakkanam Public library is a "A" category library in the village. The library initially started its operations in the year 1972. Presently it has around 8500 books. In the last year library has been renovated and a new 2 storied building has been set up for its smooth functioning.
