Prabhakar Kore

Prabhakar Kore (born August 1, 1947) is an Indian politician and a member of Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is the chairman of the Karnatak Lingayat Education Society, Belgaum which runs over 220 educational institutions in Karnataka.

As chairman of the K.L.E. Society since 1984, he has contributed significantly to the society’s emergence as a premier education provider. The K.L.E. Society has 204 institutions under its fold with a student community in excess of 70,229 and a workforce of over 8,226. The society offers education, in nearly every stream of learning. Under his chairmanship over 166 institutions have been newly created. A unique aspect of this growth has been the focus to make an education impact in rural areas in fields such as Pharmacy, Nursing, Education Management Studies, Computer Applications, Engineering etc. In keeping with his vision of ensuring that the KLE has a global presence, Prabhakar Kore has been the moving spirit behind the establishment of international schools at Delhi and Bangalore.

Kore has been responsible for getting University status for the society’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum and Institute of Dental Sciences Belgaum as ‘KLE University’, Belgaum. Further, he has ushered in an era of collaborations in health sciences by entering into MoUs with universities of Illinois, Chicago, and Sunderland (UK). Yet another remarkable achievement of his has been the establishment of a sophisticated 1000-bed KLE Hospital and M.R.C., with investment exceeding Rs.110 crores. Apart from providing useful teaching material to students of medical science, KLE 820-bed Charitable Hospital, Belgaum is serving as a lifeline of the poor and downtrodden people of the region. Thus, he has made Belgaum the hub of Education and Health care. For this outstanding and selfless contribution of a great sacrifice, the K.L.E.Society named this great monument of national pride after him as KLES Prabhakar Kore Hospital and M.R.C., Belgaum.

Kore is ... legendary architect of a resurgent KLE that has grown from 38 in 1984 into an organization of global excellence of 216 institutions; progressive leader whose missionary zeal & firm commitment have pioneered the KLE march in health sciences education and research; compassionate soul who has brought state-of-the-art health care services to the door-step of the people; world citizen who has ensured cross-cultural integration through international academic collaborations; messiah who has become a local-lore by providing urban infrastructure in the rural areas to harness the local talent; rare visionary who has redefined & redesigned the KLE for the 21st century; accomplished educationist who has led the KLE relentlessly along the path envisioned by the ‘Saptarishis.’[1]

His initiative has led to the establishment of a model hospital and research centre at Ankola, (North Kanara Dist), intensive care units at Hubli, Gokak, Jamkhandi and satellite dental clinics at Belgaum, Bailhongal, Gokak, Nipani in Karnataka, and Aravalli & Gadhinglaj in Maharastra.

Under his leadership and guidance the K.L.E.Society has grown into an education and health care provider of global standard. In all his endeavour quality alone speaks. He is basically from a village called Ankali in Chikodi Taluka and Belgaum District.[2][3]
