Powayan is a town and a subdivisional headquarters in Shahjahanpur district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.It was established originally from Nahil, in order to protect the royal family in historic time and Powayan was a purvaiyan chowki.(east - and the word became Powayan or Pawayan in later times)

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[1] Powayan had a population of 23,417. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Powayan has an average literacy rate of 65%, : male literacy is 65%, and female literacy is 52%. In Powayan, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Powayan has agro-based economy, as is the case with most of the towns in Uttar Pradesh. The agriculture sector has grown by leaps. Due to its major presence in agricultural industry, Powayan is also famous (in local areas) for production/maintenance of agricultural equipments, with many families involved in such businesses. Pawayan (Earstwhile Zamindari) is a town area in the current state of Uttar Pradesh in India, 27 km from Shahjehanpur. It is located in the fertile agricultural belt of Northern India and is 300 km from Delhi and 200 km from Lucknow. It was established in the 18th century.

History

Founded around 1705 by Raja Udai Singh, who was the son of Bhupat Singh, a leader of the ancient Gaur clan of Rajputs settled at Chandra and Katesar in Sitapur, U.P. He established Pawayan, the largest Rajput state in the erstwhile Rohilkhand Area and the present District Shahjahanpur in U.P. Gaur Rajputs originated from Gaur Desh (country), in West Bengal. The Gaur Rajputs had dispersed to various parts of Northern and Central India after the onslaught of the Persian raider, Bhaktiar Khilji, around 1205.

Present head of house and titular head is Raja Wg.Cdr Abhay Singhji, 11th Raja Saheb of Pawayan, born 1943' educated at Colvin Taluqdars' College and National Defence Academy. Received Vayu Sena Medal(Gallantry award) from President of India and led the first Indian defense expedition to Antarctica. Patron of Vidya Parishad Pawayan. He has two sons: Rakjumar Anirudh Singh Rajkumar Akshay Singh

Industries

Tehsil Powayan is one of the biggest wheat and rice producers in India. Powayan Tehsil and Mandi smaiti is one of the highest revenue payer in Uttar Pradesh state. powayan is well industilized and have adequate number of rice mills, flour mills and sugar mills. Some of the major sugar production mills including Kisan Sahkari sugar mills and Bajaj Hindusthan Limited. Powayan is called The "Mini Panjab" of UP.

Powayan has been number one in agricultural production from decades. Farmers use modern and eco-friendly technologies by causing zero harm to environment and get most productivity.
