Several members of the originally Swiss Pourtalès family of Protestant bankers, also active in Naples, France, and Prussia, are notable:

• Bernard Alexandre George Edmond de Pourtalès (5 June 1870 – 5 July 1935) was a Swiss infantry captain and sailor who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics.
• Guy de Pourtalès (4 August 1881 Berlin – 12 June 1941 Lausanne ) was a Swiss author.
• Hélène de Pourtalès (born as Helen Barbey) (28 April 1868 – 2 November 1945) was a Swiss sailor who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics.
• Hermann Alexander de Pourtalès (31 March 1847 – 28 November 1904) was a Swiss sailor who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics.
• James-Alexandre de Pourtalès, Comte de Pourtalès-Gorgier (1776 - 1855) was a banker, diplomat and art collector; the Laughing Cavalier and a Botticelli portrait are among the works sold after his death.^[1]
• Jean de Pourtales (born August 19, 1965) is a French racing driver from Neuilly-sur-Seine.
• Graf Karl Friedrich von Pourtalès (1853 - 1928) was a German diplomat: see the July Crisis of 1914; see also Villa Mettlen, Muri bei Bern in the Canton of Bern, Switzerland.
• Comte Louis François de Pourtalès (1824–1880) was an American naturalist, born at Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
